Web Manager

The position deals with the technical responsibilities associated with its growing media website. The web manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining the web and social media presence of Himal Southasian, in consultation with the rest of the editorial team. In addition to ensuring a smooth running of the website, the web manger works to increase the visibility and readership of the website and do the required outreach. The position reports to the Editor.

Specific responsibilities

As part of running the website, they will be responsible for the uploading content on the website, updating and maintaining our social media and other online accounts (eg. email, 2Checkout, MailChimp), overseeing and updating the website’s various sections, and liasoning  between the editorial team and the website developers regarding enhancements and changes to our website. They will also be supervising the design elements of the Himal website, identifying glitches and suggesting improvements, preparing ebooks of our print quarterlies, monitoring website and social network traffic, suggesting strategies for outreach and improving website and social media traffic, and be available to help deal with major website/social-media emergencies.

Apply if you have

• Past experience with WordPress; a graphics editing software like Adobe Photoshop; a pdf editing software like Adobe Acrobat; basic coding and web-design skills; solid understanding of web hosting and servers,
• A discerning eye for visual and graphic content; interest in journalism and Southasian issues, fluency in English language; an understanding of the specific needs of developing a high-traffic portal that seeks to increase communication and understanding across Southasia.
• Higher education in technical subjects (engineering, IT, science, mathematics) will be an asset. 

The position: This is a full-time position open from August 2015. Salary commensurate with skill set and experience. Himal Southasian provides health insurance.
