Job Description

CARE Nepal is an international humanitarian organization working in the country for the past 37 years. It currently works in 36 districts through various programs on issues relating to improving the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable populations through programs that work on the following themes: food security and climate change; emergency preparedness and DRR; migration and urbanization; sexual reproductive and maternal health; gender based violence; women and girls’ leadership. Marginalized Women and Adolescent Girls are our two primary impact groups. Core priorities include investment in the empowerment and leadership of women and girls, reaching hard to reach population, good governance and accountability, working in partnership and alliance with like-minded actors, and evidence-based advocacy.

CARE Nepal hereby invites applications from interested candidates for the following full time positions, based in Kathmandu, in response to the Nepal Mega Earthquake. As a humanitarian organization CARE has been providing support in the affected areas and requires dynamic and committed individuals to help the organisation provide relief and reconstruction.

WASH Specialist

Key responsibilities:

This position is created to directly support CARE Nepal’s (Earthquake) Emergency Response. The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Nepal Earthquake WASH Response, including development of the WASH Response Strategy and funding proposals, for design and implementation of the water, sanitation and hygiene component of CARE Nepal’s emergency response. S/he will need to co-ordinate with other CI RED team members and CARE Nepal’s Staff, especially logistics, health and technical sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response. S/he will need to ensure response to immediate WASH issues with simultaneous consideration of longer term needs and possible scenarios. Depending on the situation the specialist may need to take a very active role in technical co-ordination, support and advocacy with national and local WASH clusters and other technical agencies relevant to the sector.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Master’s degree in public health engineering, hygiene promotion and public health or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of WASH programming, preferably in emergency, in multiple contexts, including remote rural locations.
