Job Description

Position Title :  Electrical Technician / Messenger
Condition of Employment :  Full-time based in UNESCO Kathmandu Office
Type of Contract :  Service Contract
Salary scale :  SB1, Band1, Step1

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Representative and the direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Assistant, the incumbent shall perform electrical technician and messenger function of the office ;

In particular, s/he shall:

  • The technician is responsible for a variety of work assignment that involves configuration and troubleshooting as well as, testing, maintaining, installing, repairing and inspection of low and medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Advising and assisting staff, management and others on operating problems involving electronic equipment.
  • Inspecting, maintaining and repairing equipment, radio and network communication systems, fire alarm, access and control, security systems, meters, backup power supply and battery systems, and electrical power generation equipment.
  • Assist in the inventory management.
  • Assist IT Unit in regular servicing of computer, printer and hardware.
  • Responsible for the office’s store managment by maintaing proper records of stores. Periodic comparision of physical stocks and book figures and to reconcile the discrepancies, if any.
  • Responsible for messenger work (collect/deliver letters and documents, pay electricity / telephone / water bill).
  • Responsible to monitor the hygiene and cleanliness in the office premises and parking area.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Office and/or the supervisor.

General Requirements:

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary level education or equivalent program in electronics from a recognized academic or technical institution.
  • 2 years of experience in the area of administration, IT & electrical filed, preferably with a UN agency or an INGO.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali;
  • Good knowledge of IT skills;
  • Ability to work in multicultural team environment and to meet given deadlines;
  • Flexibility to work in difficult and changing conditions.
