Job Description

  1. Job Title: Sunrise Home In-charge

 

  1. Background:                                                                                                                                                                                   SO Nepal (NGO) in partnership with SCAI Australia (INGO) has been working in the field of child protection and child development through a holistic approach since 2005. SCAI & SO believe all children should have the right to be with their biological families wherever possible, and aim to re-connect and reintegrate the children with their own biological /extended families as long as it in their best interest. SO/SCAI also provides temporary residential care and support to vulnerable children with no alternative /family care option. The Sunrise Home In-charge is responsible to for the overall smooth operation of Sunrise Home under the direct supervision of the Program Manager.

 

  1. Contract Type: Full time Live-in carer. Contract renewal on annual basis, based on performance review.

 

  1. Reporting to: Program Manager SO Nepal and SCAI Australia

 

  1. Duty Station: Sunrise Home, Shivapuri-6, Gurje-Nuwakot (Visits outside Sunrise Home and to different education scholarship programs of SCAI projects  may be required as per the need of projects from time to time)

 

  1. Role of the employee: The Sunrise  Home In-charge will carry out the following duties:

 

    Overall:

  • Shall be familiar with SO/SCAI Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives.
  • Shall be familiar with and abide by the rules, regulation and policies of the organizations.
  • Shall be familiar with governmental guidelines and polices related to children and their protection.
  • Be free from all forms of discrimination (sex, ethnicity, religion, nationality, politics etc.)

Specific:

Child Care/Counselling

  • Deliver the services to children in Sunrise Home as per the approved plan in a very transparent and efficient way.
  • Ensure that all children in Sunrise Home receive appropriate care, guidance, mentoring and emotional support.
  • Ensure that children receive group and/or individual psychosocial counseling on a regular basis.
  • Monitor the children’s physical as well as mental health, education, personal behavior, socialization aspect for the overall growth of children.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessment /session for Sunrise Home and reintegrated  children and identify the support needed and report to manager/SCAI 
  • Maintain case files and keep records of child counseling history, case management and closure.
  • Conduct home/field visit to SO program and other SCAI funded program in order to accomplish SO/SCAI mission and vision.
  • Inspire and motivate the children, youth and their families to reach their full potential.

 

Education and personal development

  • Ensure that all children in Sunrise Home attend school regularly.
  • Monitor their school environment to detect any issues they may be facing at school.
  • Organize interaction with teachers of Kalika School to monitor their academic and extracurricular performance.
  • Oversee and support the children in their home studies.
  • Oversee and support the children to be involved in age-appropriate extracurricular activities.

 

Reconnection/ Reintegration /Program/Reporting

  • Work with the Program Manager to actively trace children’s families and keep children informed of the action taken and progress in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Ensure that the re-connection of children is made with their family/relatives as soon as possible after entering Sunrise Home.
  • Provide the opportunity to the children and family members to meet each other on a regular basis (based on appropriate documentation), and regular phone contact in between and when physical visits may not be possible due to distance or other factors.
  • Ensure that children have the opportunity to visit the home of their parents/relatives especially during Dasain/Tihar holidays as much as possible (and plan this well in advance to maximise their opportunities).
  • Facilitate trainings/workshops for children and staff members of SO Nepal and other program of SCAI funding in coordination with SO Program Manager and SCAI.

 

Reporting/Admin

  • Carry out overall supervision and administration of Sunrise Home.
  • Supervise Sunrise Home staff and make sure they maintain appropriate personal hygiene of all children.
  • Oversee logistic arrangements.
  • Make sure that all property of Sunrise Home is protected and preserved.
  • Make sure that requests/orders of all food and non-food materials for Sunrise Home are requested in advance to SO Kathmandu office.
  • Maintain all files and documentation related to children including child, health and education files.
  • Maintain records and ledgers of all materials received and used /issued.
  • Maintain visitor log-book and donation book.
  • Maintain incoming and outgoing log-book for staff.
  • Maintain leave record of staff.
  • Ensure that the approved food calendar is maintained and children get food according to calendar.
  • Ensure safety equipment’s such as fire extinguisher and first aid box are in place up to date.
  • Monthly and other periodic reporting
  • Attend SO/SCAI office when requested by Program Manager/SCAI.
  • Any other task assigned by SO and SCAI.

 

 

  1. Eligibility Creteria:
  • Applicant is required to have completed a bachelor’s degree in humanities and social science or any other related field. Have completed minimum 6 months psycosocial counseling trainig and have minimum 3 +years relavant work experiences or post gradaute diploma in psycosocial counselling and 1+ years work expereince in relavant sector.
  • Must be female, matured and above the age of 27 years..
  • Flexible in duty hours and must be willing  to work on weekend/festivals (as role is full time live-in carer).
  • Prior relavant work experience in NGO/INGO sector is mandatory.
  • Caring, gentle personality, passionate about children and SO/SCAI’s mission, and ready to work under pressure.
  • Be respectul and polite.
  • No political affiliation.
  • Be in excellent physical and mental heath.
  • Willing to visit remote areas and work with vulnerable  children /communities.
