Position: Senior Safeguarding Coordinator
Safeguarding Compliance
Ensure Safeguarding policies, practices and standards are oriented and applied throughout the organization.
Ensure Safeguarding mechanisms are in place and are subject to continuous monitoring/review
Ensure Child Safeguarding risks are understood and effectively managed by programs in the CO and in field offices
Undertake clear, strong advocacy in line with the Safeguarding Policy and its inclusion in the programs and operations at all levels across the country office; utilizing all appropriate internal platforms and events in order to raise awareness, challenge complacency and increase commitment.
Identify the Safeguarding risk across the organization and programs and develop a mitigation plan.
Develop annual Safeguarding plans and ensure their implementation.
Implement findings of Safeguarding audit’s management reports through an action plan.
Collaborate with Senior Management Team and key teams to monitor and implement Safeguarding policy and to ensure that Child Safeguarding is integrated with all systems. Take Safeguarding issues as a standing agenda for SMT.
Ensure Safeguarding concerns are reported effectively in line with policies and procedures.
Ensure Referral mechanisms are in place
Safer Programming
Identify potential risks to children in all the project activities including, work with program teams to plan mitigating measures and assign staff to be responsible for the implementation.
Ensure that a Child Safeguarding and adult Safeguarding approach is mainstreamed through program design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Ensure that the tools and resources are made available to managers in the relevant languages and that they know how to access support and guidance.
Mainstreaming Safeguarding in Partner Organisation
Develop and implement a plan to mainstream Safeguarding (Child and Adult) standards with Save the Children partner organizations, in coordination with the Project managers, Field Associate Director, and Partnerships Director
Work closely with partner organizations to develop and implement Safeguarding (Child and Adult) procedures
Plan and deliver training programs on Safeguarding for partner staff with a strong focus on emergency/humanitarian response
Review and strengthen Safeguarding systems within partner organizations, planning and delivering training programs accordingly.
Capacity Building
Design and facilitate training/ orientation/refreshers to staff, partner staff, and representatives on SCI Zero tolerance policies. Conduct on-going refresher training.
Ensure all the staff has timely taken mandatory Safeguarding training, KPIs are met and is reported to ARO within the deadline.
Design, develop and conduct training on the investigation, Safeguarding assessments, and contextualized training and support to staff involved in providing accommodation and care to unaccompanied minors.
Build the capacity of the Safeguarding focal persons inappropriately identifying, responding to, and reporting and investigations on safeguarding concerns.
Ensure all visitors and representatives are briefed and comply with the Safeguarding policy.
Coach and support programs based in the field as well as partners in order to improve Child Safeguarding practices.
Strengthen the capacity of HR to deliver Safer recruitment, induction, and mainstreaming Safeguarding in the organization.
Reporting and Investigation
Ensure timely reporting of cases to the HR/Admin Director, CD, and on DATIX
Keep all reports and cases confidentially recorded
Manage cases online and offline and ensure that all cases are managed within the set deadlines
Support HR and Admin Director or lead when Director is unavailable on investigations on safeguarding, code of conduct, and on preparing an initial and final report.
Follow-up on recommendations and plan of action and keep the tracker updated
Carry out Safeguarding investigation once the concerns are reported
Provide orientation and support to the Investigation Committees in consultation with the HR/Admin Director
Ensure that concerns are followed up safely, effectively, efficiently, and confidentially to required standards.
Additional
Participate in SCI Global and Regional webinars and implement global initiatives on Child Safeguarding, Safeguarding, and PSEA across both humanitarian and development settings.
Act as an ambassador for Child Safeguarding and Safeguarding at all times
Develop materials to promote CS within the Country Office and its programs.
Masters’ Degree in a related field (Preferably in Law or Human Rights)
5 years experience (3 years for GSI group*) in the relevant field, (Preferably in Child Rights)
