Project Objective:
Social Impact is conducting an evaluation of Humanity United’s Building Better Futures (BBF) Program in Nepal, implemented by World Education. Since 2011, Humanity United has supported programs to address forced, bonded and child labor in Nepal’s brick industry. These programs address two areas: In brick kilns – through a market-oriented model that incentivizes behavior change among brick kiln owners and producers; and in communities where kiln workers originate – to increase worker resilience against labor recruiters who offer predatory wage advances. SI is conducting an evaluation of the latter intervention in brick worker communities, known as BBF Program.
The BBF Program takes a systems-based approach. BBF program includes education and livelihoods activities in brick workers’ origin communities to help them improve their ability to earn a living at home and save their income, increase their resilience against recruiters offering predatory loans, and help their children enroll and stay in school. Implemented in two districts surrounding the Kathmandu Valley and the Kavre, considered.**
