Reports to: Vice Principal (Head of Elementary School) and Secondary School Coordinator
Qualification, Skills and Aptitude
Bachelor’s degree in Counseling or Psychotherapy with 5 years of experience or Masters in Counseling and Psychotherapy with 2 years of experience,
Experience in counseling children and young people in a progressive school setting,
Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources,
Experience of supporting students with learning needs, both in class and in one to one situations,
Strong communication skills and ability to present ideas and subject content in a clear and simple way,
Friendly, personable and engaging demeanor,
A team player who believes in collaborative working style,
Good organizational skills and able to prioritize and multi-task.
Main Purpose of Job
The school counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services, and responds to identified students need by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic and personal/social development for all students. They will provide high quality counseling service to students experiencing wide range of social and emotional problem. They will contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of welfare and personal care of children and young people. They will maintain confidentiality and support the school’s endeavor to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students.
Main Responsibilities
Listen to students’ concern about academic, emotional or social problems,
Make acquaintance with all students through formal and informal contacts,
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians and teachers regarding students with identified concern and needs,
Conduct personal counseling with walk in students having academic as well as social/emotional problems,
Mediate and try to resolve conflict between teacher and students,
Help students process their problem and plan goals and actions,
Improve parent/teacher and student relationship,
Value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students,
Encourage the KWS values of integrity, compassion, respect, responsibility, collaboration and dynamism in students,
Plan, deliver and assess programs as per the school’s Counseling and Learning Support policy,
Maintain up-to-date records and deliver school counseling programs in conjunction with the Head of Elementary School,
Review student progress and, where appropriate, seek help for students with perceived behavioral and/or educational problems from the grade teacher,
Maintain and improve personal standards of learning, share best practices and ideas with other faculty members and remain abreast of current developments in their own subject and in education in general,
Under the guidance and with approval from the Vice Principal (HofES) and Elementary School Coordinator review books and other resources, review syllabuses and contribute to the design, evaluation and delivery of the Learning Support policy.
Other Responsibilities
Attend assemblies, meetings, parent events, presentations including on weekends as required,
Maintain cordial relation and communication with other school staff members,
Ensure effective utilization of resources, materials and equipment. (Closing windows, turning off the lights, and locking the door when leaving their room. All rooms should be left neat and orderly.),
Monitor and supervise students during arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal and any other time in order to help enforce school policies and procedures during transition time.
