Position: Research Manager- Randomized Controlled Trial
ABOUT THE POSITION
Duration of Employment 2 years contract with possibility of extension
Working nature Full-time assignment
Working hours 40 hours a week
Duty station Central office with frequent visits to district office in Kapilvastu
Supervisor Country PI/Managing Director
Key responsibilities of the Research Manager are as follows:
Core technical functions
1. Lead development of detail research implementation plan in the district in coordination with
district CAPPT team, ensuring alignment with trial protocol, project log frame and indicators
2. Provide technical input to the development of effective data collection tools and methodology
at various stages of the project
3. Sound knowledge of RCT and randomization techniques would be an added advantage to
guide district team in planning and implementation of trial activities
4. Should lead recruitment process and training of field team to create a common level of
understanding to generate quality evidence using designed tools and techniques
5. Undertake technical supervision of the trial team (district based intervention team and
surveillance team) to ensure timely completion of planned activities with high quality work and
results.
6. Engage with district and central CAPPT team to develop and implement a monitoring,
evaluation and learning strategy by developing theory of change, log frame and indicators to
track progress of the projects
7. Make routine trips to trial sites to ensure effective and efficient implementation of trial activities
in accordance with Trial Protocol and provide supportive supervision to generate quality
evidence
8. Act as focal point of contact and liaison between country PI, technical partners, central and
district based team and with national and sub-national level stakeholders
9. Ensure quality of evidence, engaging with data team, by on-site visits and through real-time
monitoring of data uploaded from field into organization’s server
10. Ensure the confidentiality of all collected data for the research purpose including other
sensitive data
11. Supervise regular data management functions to comply with standardized data management
practice of the organization
12. Ensure proper documentation of project activities by designated staff, and reporting of all
activities with sufficient proof documents
13. Prepare regular reports (progress report, activity reports, etc.), with support from district based
intervention manager and surveillance manager, based on requirements of projects
14. Ensure an effective feedback mechanism is implemented within the team
15. Engage with team to communicate research findings and produce scientific papers for
publications in national and international journals
16. Envision potential risks to the project, develop and routinely update a project risks register in
coordination with district and central team and ensure implementation of timely prevention or
action measures, when needed
17. Undertake any other task as required by the organization
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
Essential
Master’s degree in Public Health, Applied Epidemiology or related studies with strong
knowledge and experience in research implementation
At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in managing trial or research projects and team
Sound theoretical knowledge of various research methods including RCTs
Strong track record in an applied research context, proven analytical skills
Proven ability to analyze data and write comprehensive reports
Proven track record of timely and quality delivery
strong leadership and motivational skills as well as effective communication, organizational and time management skills
Excellent spoken and written English and Nepali
Desirable
Experience of working with government and development agencies
Sound knowledge of the health systems in Nepal and elsewhere
Knowledge and experience of working in nutrition sector
Knowledge of Awadhi language is an asset
Proven ability of confidence and an ability to work well as a team member whilst demonstrating a genuine appetite for personal learning
