ROLE PURPOSE:
The TB Laboratory Officer will provide support to provinces for revitalizing sputum microscopy QA/QC and establishing Quality Assurance and accreditation system GeneXpert services.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Provide support to the Provincial Health directorate for establishing TB microscopy QA laboratories (in provinces that do not have QC laboratories) and revitalize TB microscopy EQAS.
Ensuring quality of GeneXpert testing and timely repair and maintenance.
Conduct monitoring and supervision visits to health facilities with TB sputum microscopy and GeneXpert services and provide onsite coaching to laboratory personnel.
Ensuring a regular supply of cartridges and other laboratory consumables to health facilities.
Coordinate and support for training of laboratory personnel on TB diagnostic services.
Laboratory data consolidation and reporting.
Coordination and communication with Provincial Health Directorate/ Ministry of Social Development, NTC, and other stakeholders.
Coordinate for preventive maintenance and other maintenance of the TB laboratory equipment at health facilities.
Ensure infection control measures are followed by laboratory personnel at healthcare facilities.
Ensure the proper collection, packaging, and transportation of sputum specimens from health facilities to GeneXpert sites and to reference laboratories for culture and DST.
In coordination with TB GeneXpert Coordinator, implement GeneXpert Quality Assurance System at GeneXpert sites.
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in a medical laboratory.
Experience in National TB Program is preferred.
Good working knowledge of current national TB guidelines.
The ability to work with minimal supervision.
A strong understanding of TB prevention, treatment, care, and support programs.
Fluency in English (written and speaking) is essential.
Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g. Word, Excel) relevant to the work.
Able to work independently as part of a team.
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
A High degree of negotiation tact and diplomacy skills.
