UNESCO is implementing projects related to the freedom of expression, access to information, safety of journalists and media development in partnership with governmental and non-governmental organization and media institutions in Nepal.
In order to develop, implement and coordinate the activities of the Communication and Information (CI) Unit, the Office seeks applications from qualified Nepali candidates for the following position:
Position Title : Programme Coordinator
Condition of Employment : Full-time based in UNESCO Kathmandu Office
Type of Contract : Service Contract
Salary Scale : SB 3, Band B, Step 1
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Representative to Nepal, the incumbent shall develop, implement and coordinate all activities of the CI Unit.
In particular, s/he shall:
1. Plan activities for Communication and Information (CI)
2. Ensure day-to-day implementation of programme activities
3. Liaise with programme stakeholders
4. Ensure reporting and evaluation
5. Fund raising for the unit
6. Draft proposals and find out possible partner agencies
7. Organize the project documentation
8. Contribute to the outreach of the project
General Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience Required:

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and/or Mass Communication
-
5 years of experience of working in the area of Journalism and Mass Communication, and excellent knowledge of the Nepali media landscape.

Experience in project preparation and management.
-
Good knowledge in the following areas: i) Initiatives of different agencies in the area of Mass Communication ii) UNESCO’s action on freedom of expression, press freedom and media development iii)Good networking with the media institutions of Nepal

Project designing, planning, management and evaluation skills.

Sound knowledge of IT skills required including word processing, data management, presentation software and other relevant professional software.

Very good written and oral communication skills in Nepali and English.
