Job Description

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of the Education Specialist (NoC) and overall guidance of the Section Chief, the consultant will conduct the following activities:

1. Device Configuration and Deployment

  • Oversee the preparation, configuration, and deployment of devices (tablets, laptops, etc.), ensuring they meet accessibility standards and child safeguarding (i.e., content access restrictions) and are integrated with project content.
  • Facilitate the set up Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems and train local stakeholders, including municipal-level ICT focal persons, on its operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure devices are equipped with project-specific applications (For e.g. Akelius, Learning Passport etc.), providing seamless classroom integration to support teaching and learning.

2. Training and Capacity Building

  • Design and deliver technical training for teachers, trainers, and ICT focal persons on using devices and applications and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Adapt training materials for local contexts and diverse learner needs, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Train educators to design and implement digital EdTech content in classroom settings effectively.

3. Accessibility of Content

  • Work closely with the HQ technical team to support the Accessible Digital Textbooks (ADT) initiative.
  • Ensure the digital content developed is up to standard and in compliance with international accessibility guidelines, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

  • Ensure digital content is compatible with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, text-to-speech software) and includes features like alt text, adaptive fonts, and audio descriptions.

4. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track device usage, collect data on application engagement, and provide regular updates and reports to project stakeholders.
  • Support Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and evidence generation activities in collaboration with other team members.

5. Collaboration and Coordination

  • Work with the UNICEF team to finalize and implement the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Support government during the development and testing phases of accessible digital content.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) and Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), to ensure alignment with national educational goals and integration to government tools/ platforms/ strategies.
  • Facilitate feedback sessions and incorporate user insights into content and device configurations.

Duration of the Contract: The total duration of the assignment is 12 months

Job Specification

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Education:

Advanced university degree in Education or social sciences or discipline relevant to equity and inclusion.

Work experience: 

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in digital content design, educational technology, and project management.

  • Proven expertise in Java, Python programming, content design, Artificial Intelligence and managing technical systems like MDM.

  • Experience with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and text-to-speech software, and a strong knowledge of accessibility standards in educational content.

  • Experience working with accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG) and assistive technologies.

  • Proven expertise in designing accessible digital content, including EPUB3 and HTML formatting for educational materials.

  • Demonstrated success in designing inclusive digital tools for learners, especially those with disabilities.

  • Familiarity with Nepal's education system and previous work with government or educational institutions preferred.

Skills:

  • Advanced technical skills in coding, multimedia production, and LMS implementation.
  • Strong analytical and data management capabilities, including experience in M&E.
  • Familiarity with various forms of disability, as well as universal design principles and practices that support accessibility in digital learning environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams and organizations, including with international and regional offices.
