Himal Southasian magazine is seeking an experienced Marketing and Outreach Manager to help expand and develop the business model of this unique publication.
Founded in 1987 and based in Kathmandu, Himal is a quarterly magazine of politics and culture covering the Southasia region. Styled after Granta, it is the only regional journal publishing in-depth journalism on India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Burma, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. While Himal’s beat is regional, its audience is based around the world.
The magazine is currently undergoing an exciting period of expansion, developing its print, online and membership offerings to ensure it is able to continue publishing independently into the future, meeting its goal of becoming financially sustainable.
The Marketing and Outreach Manager is a senior role with responsibility for growing the number of print and paywall subscribers, as well as helping develop membership, event and syndication programs.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a growing media organisation and extensive knowledge of global media markets. They will be energetic, self-motivated, possessing an entrepreneurial instinct and a sense of adventure. Experience developing syndication networks would be an advantage.
The position is for one year and is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The package for international applicants includes perks and assistance with accommodation in one of Southasia’s most vibrant and colourful cities.
