Samarth - Nepal Market Development Programme (NMDP), managed by Adam Smith International (ASI), is a UK aid funded five-year rural market development programme that aims to reduce poverty in Nepal, by increasing incomes of smallholder farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs.
The Community Seed Grain Bank intervention, which was launched after the 2015 earthquake, has significant potential to generate additional income and employment for the poor in rural areas. To support pro-poor and inclusive development of the intervention, Samarth-NMDP is seeking a qualified candidate to fill in the position of a Market Development Specialist to the program portfolio. Reporting to the National Program Adviser (NPA), the Market Development Specialist will be responsible for effective development and delivery of the Community Seed Grain Bank component, besides assisting the NPA in Capacity Building of program stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will be broadly responsible for:
· Strategic Planning and Coordination: Support NPA in effective development and coordination of the Agriculture Reconstruction Project component.
· Learning, Reporting & Communications: Support the NPA, implementing partners, and Communications Manager to generate and disseminate learning from the Agriculture Reconstruction Project (ARP) project.
· Stakeholder engagement: Support NPA and N PO to work with selected stakeholders including IEDI, Mol and MoAD district offices in capacity building and promotion of market systems approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
· Experience working with implementing partners and external service providers
· Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Agribusiness, Development Studies, Business Management, Finance and Accounting, Marketing
· At least 5 years' experience working in a field relevant to private sector development, preferably with a specific focus on market systems development, business development services, or value chain improvement
· Working familiarity with the Making Markets Work for the Poor approach
· Experience of stakeholder engagement; developing partnerships and managing relationships with donors, NGOs, private sector consultancies and government
· Sound financial management and reporting
· High degree of entrepreneurship and creativity
· Proven ability to motivate, mentor and manage individuals and foster effective team dynamics
Desirable
· Post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
· Experience with DCED or similar monitoring and results measurement systems; developing results chains and log frames etc.
· Experience of managing sub contractual relationships and/or grant engagements
· Experience of working with community level organizations and in designing business plans
