Laboratory Specialist
The Laboratory Specialist is responsible for overseeing capacity building, technical supervision of laboratory services provided by implementing partner agencies (IAs) at district level and coordinating with National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) for strengthening systems for quality laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities :
- Coordinate with the NPHL in provision of external quality assessment, training, standardized laboratory procedures, and optimizing viral load testing.
- Identify needs for laboratory-related technical assistance in coordination with other members of the technical team of LINKAGES Nepal
- Prepare laboratory-related technical assistance plan.
- Assist Logistics Specialist for procurement and supply chain management for relevant laboratory reagents and consumables.
- Evaluate the technical capacity of the IAs for laboratory-related services.
- Provide laboratory-related technical support to the technical team.
- Ensure PEFPAR and National Standards are used, and quality of services provided to clients and patients.
- Provide direct support to laboratory technicians of LINKAGES Nepal supported service delivery sites to implement community led-testing, HIV self-testing, and confirmatory HIV testing.
- Perform monitoring of approaches used in the districts to increase HIV case findings-specially index testing, risk network referral and enhanced peer outreach approach (EPOA)
- Support for the innovations and use of new technology in the field of HIV diagnostic and monitoring of HIV
- Coordinate with NPHL and other viral load laboratories for viral load testing of the clients from LINKAGES Nepal supported service delivery sites.
- Prepare technical reports on laboratory-related activities.
- Attend coordination meetings with government, donors, partner organizations, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Support in validation of autoclaves used in LINKAGES Nepal supported service delivery sites.
- Ensure environmentally friendly management of healthcare waste produced during service delivery in the district
- Coordinate with NPHL, National Center for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC) and other stakeholder for Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) of HIV in Nepal
- Provide Laboratory related support to NCASC for conducting surveillance and research activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s in medical laboratory technology or medical microbiology with least three years’ experience working in health program implementation/management or Bachelor’s degree with minimum five years of relevant experience
- Preferred experience in HIV & AIDS field
- Demonstrated flexibility and openness in responding to PEPFAR and USAID work priorities and deadlines
- Experience with USAID rules and regulations
- Ability to work in teams and create collaborative team building environment
