Position: Lab Assistant for Biology
Reports to: Concerned Faculty
Qualification, Skills and Aptitude
- At least a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years’ experience in a reputed educational institute (s).
- Candidate must possess a demonstrated skill of managing laboratories and experience in providing guidance to students on how to use laboratory facilities in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Have ability to ensure and maintain compliance with health, safety and security regulations.
- Able to work in close rapport with the concerned faculty, and provide guidance to the students in the absence of the faculty.
Main Purpose of Job
The main responsibilities of Laboratory Assistant include managing laboratories and ensuring that the right equipment, tools, chemicals and other materials are adequately stocked and kept in working condition. They assist the concerned faculty in making prior arrangements in terms of preparation and conduction of practical classes scheduled for the session.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Lab Assistant, she/ he will have to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- To supervise the prior preparation of every practical class in coordination with the concerned faculty member, and ensure smooth conduction of the classes.
- To prepare a list of laboratory equipment, reagents, materials, etc. required for the laboratory activities, and assist in procuring all those and maintain the required stock.
- To keep a record of movable and immovable property, equipment and devices of the laboratory.
- To ensure that all glass-wares, laboratory equipment, etc. in the laboratory are properly maintained and documented.
- To keep the record of damages by students, lab-helpers, accidental or otherwise.
- To ensure that the stipulated amount charged for damages is collected from the students, and issue a clearance form to the students at the end of the academic session.
- To maintain a log book of daily activity in the laboratory.
- To assist the faculty in charge of the laboratory classes with the conduction of the classes, and interact with the students to consolidate their understanding of the practical conducted.
- To ensure students maintain discipline within the laboratory.
