Background
The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is offering a six-month internship with our office in Kathmandu, Nepal, from mid-February 2018. This is an excellent opportunity for graduate and post-graduate students interested in security matters, particularly disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation, to get involved with UNRCPD’s work and to assist in the promotion of United Nations global norms of peace and disarmament.
UNRCPD assists countries in Asia and the Pacific in achieving their peace, security and disarmament goals, through provision of substantive support, coordination of activities at sub-regional, regional and international levels, and information sharing on global and regional activities. UNRCPD is part of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.
This internship is UNPAID and will require a full-time commitment for six months, working five days per week (Monday – Friday).

Since the beginning, UNRCPD has strengthened partnerships with regional organizations including ASEAN, PIF and SAARC to assist member States of those organizations address the threats posed by illicit SALW, work towards armed violence reduction, as well as improve disarmament outreach and advocacy. The focus of UNRCPD’s efforts to date, in the field of conventional arms, has centered on implementation of the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PoA) and the passage and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).
