Job Purpose:
ï‚· To implement and maintain International Alert’s financial procedures, ensuring accounting meets all statutory requirements and appropriate financial controls for effective financial management
ï‚· To support staff members to comply to procedures and record transactions in a timely, accurate and complete way
ï‚· To protect the organization’s assets, especially its cash balances, bank accounts and fixed assets and make sure they are accurately reflected in the accounts
ï‚· To assist the Country Represenative in preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts, statutory accounts for audit and other reports for stakeholders.

CONTRACT DURATION: 06 Months extendable based on funding
DIMENSIONS:
ï‚· Most tasks well defined within objectives set by CR with some routine reactive work in response to requests.
ï‚· Work patterns are mainly routine.
ï‚· Problems may vary but do not always need upward referral.
ï‚· Reactive work requires common sense to make judgments about basic adjustments to own routine but also contributes to improvement of department's services, procedures and systems.
ï‚· Occasionally need to influence the team.
ï‚· Communicates with all departments.
ï‚· Engagement with programme and research activities of the wider organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain Ledger
Manage the function: maintain the invoice register, prepare invoices for authorization, post invoices to the accounting system, weekly payment run, money transfers, resolution of queries, controls and reconciliations.
2. Cash & Bank
3. Cash flow:
work with CR to improve accuracy of cash flow forecasting. Maintain the rolling cash flow forecast and monitor bank balances online, identify the need for transfers between currency accounts
4. Trip Reporting
Check trip reports for completeness and accuracy and record them, manage cash for trips, advances to staff, cash returned and currency cash count(s).
5. Month End Procedures and Quarterly Reviews
Prepare and record pre-payment and accruals In line with the month-end timetable.
Report to the CR at the end of each quarter on creditor analysis, outstanding trip reports & outward grants, bank balances etc.
6. Statutory Accounts and Audit
Prepare schedules for the year-end audit in accordance with the Auditor’s Audit Deliverables
List, assist in preparation of the annual accounts and the audit process.
7. Supporting Programmes / Departments
Build strong working relationships with other departments, ensuring flow of relevant information in both directions and providing advice and ad hoc analysis as deemed appropriate.

May include:
· Payroll and Pension - Learn and understand payroll system;
· Staff health and life insurance - Learn and understand International Alert’s system;
· Fixed Asset Register;
· Any other duties reasonably required.
· Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge management, and participate in organization-wide events and discussions on related topics/projects
SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
ï‚· University Degree preferably in finance/accounting/other equivalent relevant professional qualification
ï‚· At least 2-3 years’ experience in finance & accounting with at least 1-2 years with some reputable NGO (fresh graduates are encouraged to apply)
ï‚· Ability to work to tight deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure, with minimal supervision
ï‚· Strong computer skills (e.g. MS Word, Excel etc)
ï‚· Good knowledge of accounting and financial controls
ï‚· Integrity, professional approach, good team worker.
ï‚· A solid foundation of relevant NGO / INGO knowledge and experience
ï‚· SUN Accounts as value added skill
