United Mission to Nepal (UMN) is an international development organisation which strives to serve the people of Nepal by addressing root causes of poverty so that people can enjoy life in all its fullness. Following the devastating earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015, UMN has set up the Dhading Disaster Response Programme (DDRP) to assist the people of Dhading to rebuild their lives. It consists of three projects in each of two geographical areas of Dhading, one in the North and one in the South. The projects are concerned with reconstruction, livelihoods and social/ environmental needs, and focus on the poorest people in the target VDCs.
Position: Disaster Risk Management Advisor - based in Dhading Besi
The main responsibilities are to contribute to the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) work within UMN’s Dhading Disaster Response Programme by providing expertise and management of DRR and CCA activities in the project area.The Disaster Risk Management Advisor will support the DDRP Team to develop the capacity of UMN’s staff and partner organisations so that they can implement effective interventions in relation to DRR and CCA, primarily through community programmes. The post-holder will report directly to the DDRP Team Leader and will also be part of the Livelihoods Project Team.
Minimum Qualification and Experience:
• University Masters level education in disaster/risk management (preferred);
• 2 years or more experience of working in the DRR/CCA Sector;
• Experience of training/facilitation of workshops and managing projects;
• Experience of working in remote rural settings preferred;
• Excellent in English (spoken and written).
