WaterAid Nepal (WAN) was established in 1987 during UN Water and Sanitation Decade, 1981-1990. WAN has particularly a strong track record in supporting local partners for service delivery; water, sanitation and hygiene. It pioneered the service delivery role of NGOs in the sector and lately has placed an increased emphasis on learning, advocacy and influencing the sector. WAN is continuously working on water, sanitation and hygiene which are basic building blocks of public health.
This Terms of Reference (ToR) is developed to acquire services from an external design consultant who will work on a specific short-term task as detailed below.
BACKGROUND
WAN is in the final process of moving its current office in Kupondole, Kathmandu to another location within the valley. The new office will be a rented house, most probably built in a residential design.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The specific objectives of this assignment are listed below which would form the consultant’s roles and responsibilities:
Make a detailed assessment of the shortlisted office space from various perspectives, and identify its suitability to WAN keeping its requirements in mind (enclosed ToR for Office Space Requirements)
Provide support on vulnerability assessment of the new office. Example- earthquake resistance test.
Provide various office space design options keeping WANs profile, cost-effectiveness and contemporary requirements in mind
Prepare both interior and exterior office designs and lead the design implementation process
Other support and recommendations for creating an employee-friendly office space
SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The consultant will work closely with the Administration team led by People, Organizational Development and Administrative (PODA) Manager.
REPORTING LINE
The consultant will report to PODA Manager.
TIME FRAME
The expected start date is 4th May 2015. There are no fixed work days and hours for the consultant, however, deadlines and deliverables for this task shall be mutually agreed upon.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The design consultant must meet the following specifications:
- Possess at least a Bachelors degree in architectural design or relevant field
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction and design of buildings and other physical infrastructures
- At least 3 years of professional experience in architectural design and implementation, preferably designing office spaces.
- Strong IT skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexible, creative, detail-oriented and well organized
- Ability to maintain highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- The consultant will be paid a mutually agreed fee for this specific task.
- This assignment shall be undertaken in consultation with WAN Admin team and other experts as appropriate.
- Other terms and conditions will be as per WAN standard.
All interested design consultants are required to submit an application with a detailed and up-to-date CV clearly outlining previous experience, qualifications and specialisation areas within the field. The application should demonstrate sound knowledge, technical skills and capability as required by the nature of the assignment. This should also specify the proposed fee for the services (daily rate), however, a flat fee for the entire assignment will be mutually decided subject to selection. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited for further assessment and discussion.
