Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gurkha Welfare Trust (Nepal) (GWT(N)) is seeking a local consultant for an initial period of four months to provide technical assistance for the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) element of the DFID funded programme in Nepal. He/she will be required to design and oversee the opening stages of a DRR programme which delivers effective DRR training to rural communities. He/she will additionally be required to work closely with Government Authority of Nepal or their representatives in provincial and district governments to ensure that training, workshops and other deliverables are aligned to existing DRR plans.

GWT(N) is interested in individuals with experience of the following:

  • Conducting field level DRR assessments with community actors, including local authorities and schools.
  • Facilitating participatory design of community-based DRR mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery interventions, ensuring they are contextually relevant and applying evidence-based best practices.
  • Developing tailored DRR curriculum and facilitating training of trainers (ToT) workshops.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION & EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management or related field
  • Fluent in Nepali and English

EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent understanding of DRR&M situations in Nepal and its integration in the federal structure
  • 10 or more years’ experience working with senior officials of government institutions in Nepal and providing technical assistance to DRR programs
  • Experience designing DRR projects and proposals, and developing project budgets.
  • Prior experience of conducting study/research in the area of DRR, community stabilization, livelihoods or related field.
  • Prior experience of conducting project evaluation
  • Confident use of statistical analysis software and social research methods
  • Proven experience in gender analysis/mainstreaming

ASSETS

  • Previous experience working with UN other I/NGO with a similar scope of programming Specific experience in the Nepal DRR context.

CONSULTANCY FEE

The consultancy fee will be commensurate with experience. Other Terms and Conditions are as per GWT(N) regulations. This position is offered for 4 months initially and may be extended on the basis of need and performance.
