 Job description for Site Supervisor, Civil Engineers

Architecture Sans Frontières-Nepal (ASF Nepal) along with Architecture & Développement (A&D) have setup a Technical Support Office (TSO) operating from Kathmandu, aiming at providing technical support to local NGOs, CBOs and other operators.

 

For the needs of this program, TSO is now recruiting  Civil Engineers, for the position of Site Supervisor, who will have to:

o   Assist the Project Manager in monitoring construction or reconstruction activities of the projects

o   Supervise and provide technical advice before and during construction projects (Sindhupalchowk district)

o   Provide quick and efficient low-cost designs for temporary or semi-permanent structures, with control of costs

o   Assist with reception visits on the field and give technical retrofitting recommendations

o   Help with identifying additional and external expertise linked to reconstruction process in order to compile a skills database.

o   Help with identifying and documenting appropriate and innovative construction technologies for reconstruction in order to build a database

 

Minimum Qualification

o   Min. Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering/Architecture

o   Min. 1 years of experience in similar field

o   Leadership qualities

o   Good Observation, Assessment & Reporting Skills

o   Good multi-tasking with time-management skills. Ability to work under pressure.

o   Strong team-working skills., ability to work independently, as well as in a group setting

o   Excellent verbal and communication skills in English and Nepali

 

Humanitarian skills

o   Knowledge of humanitarian mechanisms – roles of Government agencies, National Clusters and International NGOs

o   Knowledge of humanitarian standards of construction (shelter, latrines, layouts, etc.)

o   Understanding of local NGOs and international NGOs mechanisms

o   Adaptation skills, field competencies, mobility and reactivity

o   Ability to interact comfortably with beneficiaries and communities’ stakeholders

 

Technical skills

o   Design, construction and cost estimate skills, especially with appropriate materials and building systems (mud, bamboo, stone, wood, etc.)

o   Extensive knowledge of ecological, appropriate and vernacular technologies

o   Good understanding of technical details and retrofitting strategies

o   Good comfort on construction sites

o   Autocad, Sketchup or equivalents and good hand sketching

o   Great knowledge of Word and Excel

More specifically, ASF-Nepal’s aims are: to form a dynamic and cooperative platform for architects, engineers and professionals who want to exchange knowledge and experience with disadvantaged communities in the fields of technology and natural science, through long term contributions based on local needs and demands; to initiate and perform development related projects; to support communities to recover and reconstruction from any disaster; to support existing education programs; to support development programs that enhance the sustainability of communities; to support distribution of knowledge as a means to arouse the interest of organizations in Nepal’s development; to collaborate with other organizations in sustainable development projects; to research, promote and disseminate sustainable technologies and architectural and engineering solutions aimed at the development of communities.
