Job Purpose
To provide support in the maintenance and management of the Resident Mission’s (RM) economic database; conduct economic analysis and forecasting; monitor economic and political progress; and assist in administration of macroeconomic and technical assistance (TA) projects.
Expected Outcomes
Under the guidance of a senior staff, contributes independently to the RM by completing a variety of tasks assigned, covering all or a combination of the following functions, depending on the situation/requirements of the local RM:
Economic Monitoring:• Monitors economic, political and sector policy developments for RM by:o Assisting in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on macroeconomic and financial sector developments on a regular basis, including maintenance of a comprehensive database; o Supporting ADB’s country strategy and programming process for Nepal by assisting the Government and ADB in the assessment of the overall economic performance and development prospects;
o Maintaining contacts with government offices, private sector organizations, academic/ research institutions, international agencies and other entities to obtain operationally relevant publications and data;
o Supporting NRM in coordination with other development partners in the areas of macroeconomic management, financial sector operations, and private sector development.
• Maintains and updates a comprehensive database on the economy of DMC that tracks relevant indicators by:o Understanding data requirements from mission leaders, co-financiers and senior staff in the Department; o Collating and summarizing statistical data from relevant sources; o Verifying the validity and accuracy of data;o Preparing background information of data;o Updating relevant data based on internal and external stakeholders’ requirements.
Economic Analysis and Forecasting:• Actively participates in the development and operationalization of economic models for forecasting and policy simulation for RM, applying techniques and approaches as instructed by senior officers.• Supports the macroeconomic analysis for RM, including:o Preparation of notes and research papers; and o Compilation, analysis, and reporting of data to explain economic phenomena and forecast market trends, applying mathematical models and statistical technique.• Contributes to economic bulletins and country and regional cooperation profiles.
Project Administration:• Assists in processing and administration of loan and technical assistance (TA) projects in the areas of public sector management, financial sector, private sector development, and statistics development.
• Administers the implementation of projects/programs related to macroeconomic, public financial management governance by: o Monitoring the progress of assigned projects; o Actively identifying issues; and o Taking actions to address issues. • Prepares internal procurement papers, and papers for extension of loan closing dates and reallocation of loan proceeds. • Supports implementation of assigned TAs by o Providing administrative support in the recruitment of consultants; o Organizing tripartite meetings; and o Preparing relevant correspondence.
Others:• Works as NRM’s focal point for Knowledge Management, supports NRM’s economic, thematic, and sector work, including authoring the Nepal Chapter of the Asian Development Outlook reports.
• Supports the preparation and implementation of ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy in Nepal.
• Supports regular monitoring of country performance under ADB’s Performance Based Allocation Policy.
• Participates in and organizes seminars and workshops as required to disseminate findings of relevant TAs and economic/sector work supported by ADB.
• Undertakes other tasks pertaining to ADB’s operations as assigned and reflected in the incumbent’s workplan.

Relevant Experience
Work experience • 6-8 years minimum relevant experience in applied economic theory/quantitative methods and policy work
• Experience in applying expertise in an international setting.
Technical knowledge• Proven application of expertise within a specific area of ADB's operations (economic, sector or thematic), or breadth across multiple areas with in-depth knowledge within one area• Able to utilize and share relevant knowledge to benefit the broader ADB community• Familiar with local language and institutions• Effective report-writing and communication skills in English and the national language (as required)• Proficient in ADB standard software programs and information technologies
People and leadership skills• Able to liaise and work effectively with government officials within own work location • Able to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member• Strong oral and written communication skills in English
