Job Description
The International Education Division is currently accepting applications for an Accountant/Administrative Assistant for a USAID-funded five-year project to improve early grade reading in Nepal. This is a full-time position with residency in Nepal.
The Accountant/Administrative Assistant will serve a dual role and will manage general office and accounting activities to ensure smooth, efficient, and effective operations. S/he will work under supervision of the Finance and Administration Director (FAD).
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting:
Provide functional support for RTI’s finance and accounting function;
Keep track of expenses and other financial transactions, mainly involving expense entry, tracking, and record keeping;
Review expenses and financial transactions to ensure it is compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreement;
Prepare invoices, write checks for payment;
Maintain petty cash account;
Follow up with field offices to make sure that weekly expense reporting are submitted within the deadline;
Review and submit monthly bank reconciliations;
Maintain project accounts using QuickBooks according to the RTI regulations;
Support the preparation of the monthly financial reports.
Operations:
Assist in setting up the office space and liaise with property management to ensure rehabilitations are completed according to lease;
Maintain inventory tracking system and do periodic reviews to ensure compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreement;
Perform general administrative duties, including organizing and maintaining office files and records, photocopies, making arrangements, and operating office equipment;
Coordinate internal and external meetings. This may include booking rooms, ordering refreshments, coordinating schedules and meeting invites, preparing agendas, and taking meeting minutes;
Coordinate and track project-related travel and accommodations (domestic and international);
Manage driver log book;
Coordinate visa and other travel requirements;
Typing/editing project related documents.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Administration and minimum of 2 years of experience in bookkeeping and/or administration;
High degree of proficiency in office procedures, typing and use of computers including all Microsoft Office programs (specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel);
Experience working with USAID or other US government-funded projects desirable;
Must have strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and be detail and deadline-oriented;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Excellent writing skills;
Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism;
Must possess fluency in English and Nepali.
